Sequoia High superintendent previews early college, cites strong graduation rate

Terry Eustace, superintendent of Sequoia High School, told the Cherokee Nation council the school will launch an early college program for incoming freshmen and has accepted 96 students so far for next year.
Eustace said total enrollment is approximately 385 students and that staff expect to move into new school buildings by Aug. 7, though he cautioned about scheduling uncertainty. "They still say, August 7. I'll hold my breath on that because I've been through them," he said.
He also highlighted academic outcomes reported to him: a 97 percent graduation rate and an average GPA of about 3.78. Eustace said teachers are participating in professional learning communities and training intended to raise ACT scores and support BIE (Bureau of Indian Education) testing performance.
Eustace noted staffing needs and said administrators plan to hire over the summer so the school is ready for the fall semester. The council received the report with thanks and no formal action taken.
