The Prince George's County Board of Education on July 9 accepted the resignation of District 2 member Jonathan Briggs, effective immediately, and declared Dr. Felton Moss elected vice chair.
Chair Brandon Jackson opened the special virtual meeting and said the board had received Briggs’ formal resignation on June 30. "On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank Mister Briggs for his service," Jackson said, applauding Briggs’ contributions to students, families and the community. Jackson said the board had accepted the resignation.
Under the board’s vacancy process, Jackson said the county executive will appoint someone to serve the remainder of the District 2 term through Dec. 7, 2026; an elected representative will assume the seat after the upcoming election.
The chair opened nominations for vice chair after noting the vice chair position was vacant. Board members nominated multiple candidates; with only Dr. Felton Moss remaining after other nominees declined, Jackson "declares board member Dr. Felton Moss as elected" vice chair. The chair noted the virtual meeting offered a "virtual clap" for the new vice chair.
The board also adopted the meeting agenda by no objection early in the session. No formal roll-call vote was recorded in the transcript for the agenda adoption or the vice chair election; the chair declared the actions adopted by general consent or by acclamation.
Next steps announced at the meeting: the county executive's appointment to fill the District 2 vacancy will serve through Dec. 7, 2026, and the board will proceed with the scheduled election cycle to seat the next term.
