Superintendent: new board report format launched; CBE changes propose 'most recent' scoring and an 'emerging' category

Superintendent Rob presented a revised board‑report format that uses an email‑first newsletter tool with analytics and hyperlinks; he said 25 of 33 recipients have viewed the report in early circulation and the central office built the tool to make reports easier to navigate.

Rob credited staff for a smooth opening week despite a new transportation vendor, saying the vendor has been "incredibly diligent at addressing the concerns." He also said the district is more fully staffed than in recent years though not yet 100 percent.

Brian, the facilitator of the district’s Competency‑Based Education (CBE) committee, outlined two principal changes under consideration: moving grading calculations from a 'mode'‑based approach to using the 'most recent' assessment, and adding an 'emerging' performance category between 'no evidence' and 'developing.' "We use most recent rather than mode," Brian said, and the committee also recommended an 'emerging' level for students beginning to grapple with content but not yet showing full developing‑level work.

The CBE committee will continue discussions on whether to keep the 'proficiency with distinction' language used for higher‑order work; teachers surveyed were roughly split on that term’s developmental appropriateness in lower elementary grades. The committee scheduled additional meetings (Sept. 25 and Sept. 28) to refine rubrics and align survey questions to actionable objectives.
