Exeter students demonstrate VEX robotics class and competition success

Seniors from Exeter High School’s VEX robotics class presented their robots and explained how the class blends engineering, programming and project‑based learning.
Avery Sher, Toran Kersten Geiler and Cedric Saint Armand described the class structure — a definition phase to evaluate the game, a development phase to build and test, and an optimization phase to tune performance — and showed how students use CAD tools and simulation software as part of their design process. “We went to five competitions this year,” one student said, noting team placements including sixth in state skills and a third‑place finish at the state semifinals.
Students demonstrated mechanisms used to score the game’s rings and described individual projects, including a final project to research an industry that uses robotics and build a working prototype. The principal and board members praised the program, and one student said participation contributed to scholarship opportunities and career readiness.
What’s next: The robotics class will continue its final projects and the district highlighted that the program adds career‑oriented STEM opportunities for students.
