Napa County adopts $996 million budget with new spending on roads, fire protection and housing

Napa County has adopted a $996,000,000 budget for the new fiscal year, a 3% increase from the prior year, county communications director Linda Weinrich said on the county’s newscast Through the Vine.

The county identified $338,000,000 as its general fund, the primary operating balance used for day-to-day services. Major line items in the adopted plan include $37,000,000 for roads and infrastructure maintenance and improvements; $34,000,000 for fire services and wildfire resilience; $66,000,000 for public safety services, including recruitment and retention; and $24,000,000 for affordable housing, homelessness response and housing stability programs.

Chief Executive Officer Ryan Alsop said the budget was framed with caution. "Despite a lot of the challenges and headwinds we have, including inflation, economic uncertainty, concerns about state and federal funding, and not performing as usual revenue sources, the county continues to take a disciplined and forward-looking financial approach," Alsop said.

The adopted budget reflects the county’s prioritization of infrastructure, emergency services and housing stability amid revenue uncertainty. The county’s communications office pointed listeners to the full adopted budget and a "budget in brief" available online for details on department-level allocations and assumptions behind revenue projections.
