Sudbury Select Board reaffirms mission statement, lists values guiding town policy

The Select Board, the town’s chief policy-making body, reaffirmed its mission to “maximize and ensure the quality of life and well-being of Sudbury residents, today and in the future,” and published an accompanying list of values that the board says will guide its work.

The mission statement says the Select Board will set strategic direction, appoint certain boards, establish policies, and develop goals to deliver municipal services “in a fiscally responsible manner,” and that implementation will rely on the Town Administration, volunteers, residents and other stakeholders.

The values list identifies specific priorities the board said it will pursue: protecting and enhancing professionalism of town staff, boards and committees; fostering respectful civic engagement and transparency; promoting equity, inclusion and belonging; encouraging long-term capital management and strategic planning; protecting educational excellence; ensuring equitable access to facilities, programs and services; promoting public health and safety; preserving Sudbury’s sense of place; pursuing diverse housing options for a range of ages and incomes; and advocating for transportation options and environmental sustainability.

The statement notes it was first adopted by the Board of Selectmen on May 10, 2000 and amended or reaffirmed on May 23, 2002; June 1, 2004; June 10, 2005; and October 25, 2022.
