The board unanimously approved reaffirming applications to the state needs-based public-school capital fund for two projects: a multipurpose addition (10 classrooms) at Bladenboro Primary and a larger project at Elizabethtown Primary that would add 10 classrooms plus a new cafeteria and kitchen. Administration said last year's application was not selected and that the district will again seek lottery-supported funding; the county commissioners must provide a 5% local match (the county previously agreed to do so). The administration presented preliminary order-of-magnitude numbers from firms who worked on the recent Tar Heel project and described using projected tax-credit reimbursements to reduce county budget impacts if the projects are approved.
