Sudbury to host regional forum March 10 on rodenticides; town launches outreach campaign

At the Feb. 24 meeting the Conservation Coordinator announced a regional public forum and education campaign on second‑generation anticoagulant rodenticides (SGARs) scheduled for March 10, 2025, at Lincoln Public School Learning Commons from 7:00 to 8:30 PM.
Lori Capone said SGARs are slow‑acting and cause secondary poisoning of predators such as raptors, coyotes, bobcats and foxes, and noted Sudbury does not use these products on town properties, relying instead on snap traps. The initiative will partner with neighboring towns (Concord, Wayland, Weston and Lincoln) and use a mix of social media, flyers, school outreach and a town webpage (Joe Miller has begun a page) to inform residents about safer alternatives. Capone also said that while some communities are exploring bylaws to restrict SGARs, a local ban would likely require action at the state level because the products are state‑approved.
Commissioners expressed support for the educational effort and asked for ways the Commission could assist, primarily through social media amplification once the full campaign plan is finalized.
