River Valley reports sharp drop in restraint/seclusion incidents; school vape incidents logged

Staff member reported that restraint and seclusion instances dropped substantially in 2025-26: "from 12... to just 2 of them this year, and they were both off-site," the staff member said, and noted that the state Department of Public Instruction "was really pleased to see this from us." The board voted to approve the report.
On the high school safety report (PI 650), staff member said most recorded incidents this year fell under possession of alcohol or controlled substances (the district noted these were likely vaping incidents among students). "So these are vape, most likely. And they were students," the staff member said. The board approved forwarding the report to DPI.
Board members asked for clarifications about the incidents and confirmed that records are compiled with the local police department when required. The reports were approved by voice votes during the meeting and will be filed with DPI as part of state reporting obligations.
