Assembly sets public hearing for Vazinkie rezoning to permit government offices and tsunami shelter

Manager Williams told the assembly that ordinance FY2027-03 would rezone a portion of New Sinky Tract C Block 1 (remainder of USS 4871) from R-1 single-family district to PL (public land) to reflect an existing building used for government offices and to formally allow its use as a community tsunami shelter. Williams noted the property was once part of the airport and is now being repurposed; the rezoning corresponds to preliminary subdivision S26-016.
Assemblymembers asked procedural questions and thanked community development director Chris French for being present to answer technical inquiries. The item was advanced to a public hearing at next week’s regular meeting.
