Valdosta approves $1.1 million in vehicle and equipment purchases on consent agenda

The Valdosta city council approved several public‑works and utilities equipment purchases as part of the consent agenda.

John Burton, the motor pool superintendent, recommended award of sealed bids received June 23. He said the utilities department’s recommended low bid for a high‑pressure jet vacuum hydro excavation truck was from 4 Star Freightliner for $594,087; the public‑works roll‑off truck low bid was also 4 Star Freightliner for $214,672; a truck‑and‑trailer combination low bid from 4 Star Freightliner was $231,834; a mini excavator low bid from Yancey Brothers was $76,790. For the annual supply of 95‑gallon rollout containers the low bid was by Schaefer Plastics at $61.80–$80.85 per container (contract with options to renew).

Burton said the new vehicles will replace aging equipment (the replacement trucks and excavator range from about 16 to 19 years old) and that the roll‑off truck will serve wastewater plants and other city functions. Council motioned, seconded and approved the consent agenda by show of hands; the meeting record did not include a roll‑call tally.
