City Manager Randall Eads resigns; Assistant City Manager Tamrya Spradlin named interim

Following a closed session on Jan. 12, Mayor Jake Holmes announced that City Manager Randall Eads has resigned and that Assistant City Manager Tamrya Spradlin will assume the role of Interim City Manager beginning Wednesday at 5 p.m., under the city charter (section 2-6).
Council convened a closed session under Virginia code §2.2-3711(A)(1) for personnel matters and later certified by roll call that only lawfully exempted topics were discussed. During the meeting several councilmembers publicly thanked Mr. Eads for his years of service; staff and council credited him with leadership since 2017.
Ms. Spradlin thanked the council and offered special thanks to Randall Eads for his leadership. A member of the public, Mike McGirr, had asked earlier in public comment that the recruitment process for a new city manager and city attorney be transparent; council stated the search for a permanent city manager will commence soon. No timeline or search firm was specified at the meeting.
