Council approves higher rental fees for Cumberland Square Park

Director of Community Development and Planning Jay Detrick told council the change was intended to cover administrative and personnel costs rather than generate profit. Detrick said the city-owned event fencing — originally obtained through a state grant to the Birthplace of Country Music — had previously carried a $4,500 installation fee; staff recommended the increase after discussions about rising installation and maintenance costs. Detrick also noted private vendors had quoted fencing installation as high as $9,500, making the city’s fee more economical for event organizers.
Councilmember Neal Osborne moved approval of the fee schedule, and Becky Nave seconded; the motion carried unanimously (Yes: Osborne, Farnum, Nave, Holmes, Pollard). The council’s action authorizes staff to implement the new fees for future reservations and to update administrative procedures accordingly.
No additional public comment was recorded on the item, and council did not attach conditions to the approval.
