Council approves $1.37 million supplemental appropriation including VDOT carryover

Assistant City Manager Tamrya Spradlin presented the amendment, which updates the city’s fiscal-year 2025 budget. Major items listed in the staff presentation included: donations and gifts to the police department ($3,000) to be used for equipment; recovered overtime costs for the police department ($2,060); insurance proceeds for police vehicle property damage ($18,055) to be applied to vehicular equipment; donations to the Fire Department ($3,000); a VDOT reimbursed maintenance carryover of $1,337,139 to be expended in the current fiscal year for maintenance of buildings and property; and $5,080 in donations for Parks & Recreation programming.
Councilmember Michael Pollard moved to approve the supplemental appropriation; Councilmember Neal Osborne seconded the motion, which carried unanimously, 5–0.
The action amends the general fund revenue and expenditure lines as presented by staff; the VDOT carryover is the largest line item and accounts for most of the total appropriation.
