Project representatives spoke from the rooftop of the Concord police station on Booten Street on a progress tour, saying deconstruction has exposed the building's original mid‑century concrete structure and that foundation work has begun for a planned addition.
"We are sitting on the roof of the new police station of Booten Street," the Presenter said, noting that the penthouse will house the prosecutor's office. The Presenter described the building as "a building that was built, in the early fifties," adding the team found "a lot of value in saving this building."
The Presenter said crews have removed the original single‑pane glass facade because it was inefficient and plan to restore the stone veneer and mid‑century character in the rebuild. "When we build it back, it's gonna be very comparable in terms of the, curb appeal to the building as it was originally constructed," the Presenter said.
On the site, the Presenter pointed to areas where asphalt has been removed for the new addition and said crews are "driving helical piles, which will be the supports for the foundation" to prevent the building from settling. The Presenter identified a large excavation as the elevator pit that will serve both the existing footprint and the new addition.
The Presenter said the project team is laying out interior offices so that conduits, chases, HVAC, electrical and fiber can be routed correctly, and noted that about five to ten submittals arrive each day for material approvals. "Our site contract, we have all of our subcontractors under contract with Milestone Construction," the Presenter said.
The Staff member described planning details and timing: early design choices such as wall colors were being discussed in internal meetings well before those elements are built, and much of the project's problem solving is completed ahead of visible construction to reduce later delays.
The Presenter said foundation work "just started last week" and that the team expects visible progress this fall when steel erection begins, with concrete trucks arriving daily for pours. The project remains on the schedule prepared by Milestone Construction, and the Presenter gave a target move‑in date: "we need to have everything happening at the same time so that we can get them moved in by November '27."
Next steps include continued foundation work, upcoming concrete pours, steel erection in the fall and ongoing submittal reviews; no formal votes or permitting actions were discussed during the rooftop update.
