Chincoteague council reviews RCEC park projects; approves select items funded by donation and reserves

Town staff told the council the Allen Community House donated $48,602.76 specifically for Brianna Conners Park, and that other items would be paid from the town’s Parks and Recreation/Beach Conservation account. Staff estimated about $15,000 would remain from the donation after the listed projects are completed and said the committee intends to replenish reserve accounts if a year-end surplus materializes.
Council members asked practical questions about the baseball/softball field in relation to added parking near a new boat ramp and whether the field should be reconfigured while work is done. Jean Wayne said the committee did not assign a value to extensive infield work (drainage/raising) but noted that infield repairs will likely need to be staged — several truckloads at a time — because a portion of the field is occasionally underwater.
The mayor asked for a motion to approve select RCEC recommendations; the council moved, seconded and approved the motion by voice vote. The transcript records the voice approval but does not itemize each approved line item.
