Fredonia updates: election logistics, water system survey shows no deficiencies, and contract awarded for Washington Ave work

Village officials reported routine operations and several near-term items at the March 19 meeting.

The village president thanked DPW staff for their response to a recent snowstorm and noted upcoming meetings and election-related dates. Clerk Kirk Johnson said absentee ballots were mailed March 11, poll worker training is complete and polls will be open Tuesday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; he also said in-person absentee voting is underway and the office conducted outreach to residents who wanted to register and vote in person.

Public works director Paulus reported that the state Department of Natural Resources sanitary survey of the water system recorded zero deficiencies—"the first time in village history," he said in the meeting—an outcome staff said reflects recent record-keeping and system improvements. Paulus also noted road work on Washington Ave is planned and staff executed a contract with Mueller Excavating for reconstruction.

Chief Weicker reviewed emergency-response metrics, saying January–February call volumes included five fire incidents, 13 rescue incidents, 35 ambulance calls and three paramedic intercepts; he reported earlier months had fewer paramedics and that staffing improved later in March, which staff said should improve response times.

Clerk Johnson also said staff submitted a congressionally directed spending application intended to help offset the purchase of a fire truck. Treasurer Upson described routine licensing and accounts-receivable improvements being pursued before upcoming billing cycles.

The board approved the general fund water and sewer invoices from the consent agenda by voice vote. The meeting adjourned after routine business.
