River Ridge CDD approves $105,000 traffic-radar sign program to address speeding

The River Ridge Community Development District on Nov. 19 approved a $105,000 traffic-calming program to install three permanent 15-inch solar-powered radar signs, a mobile unit and annual cloud-device subscriptions to monitor and message drivers.

The board voted unanimously to accept AV-Tech LLC Estimates 24150 and 24151, which cover wiring and installation of three fixed signs and one mobile unit and include a $1,500-per-device annual cloud fee, after Operations Manager Shane Willis presented the long-term plan and PSGRC General Manager Eric Long recommended relocating an existing device. "The unit clocked 800 varied speeding violations over a three week period," Long said, noting that moving the device 20 to 30 yards could improve coverage and require purchasing a pole.

Why it matters: District staff said the signs are part of a multi-year traffic-calming strategy and that $150,000 had been budgeted for traffic calming. Board members discussed installation sites, the cost of cloud-device subscriptions and whether the homeowners association should assume ongoing cloud-device costs and be permitted to offset those expenses with covenant traffic-fine revenues administered by PSGRC.

The board’s approval directs staff to move forward with installation under the presented proposals. Willis told supervisors he will purchase poles from Paramount Asphalt for about $1,200 and coordinate placement. The motion was made by Bob Schultz and seconded by Kurt Blumenthal.

Next steps: Staff will arrange installation and return to the board as needed to confirm pole siting, cloud-device billing arrangements and any HOA cost-sharing proposals.
