Centre County accepts DEP grant to study in-county glass processing; CCRRA to detail propane-container recycling event

The Centre County Board of Commissioners on July 7 voted to accept DEP 901A Municipal Waste Grant funds to support a $93,750 project to study regional glass recycling and potential on-site processing.
Mimi Cooper of the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority told the Board the authority has been shipping glass to other counties for processing and that the grant—$75,000 from DEP with a $18,750 CCRRA match—would enable in-house processing. Jason Neidig said the Recycling Market Center developed a plan to recycle small green propane containers that have accumulated in the region; CCRRA will host an information event about that program on July 28 at 1:00 p.m.
The Board voted unanimously to accept the grant. The study will assess feasibility and costs for expanding glass processing locally; CCRRA will provide details of the propane-container recycling initiative at the July 28 event.
