Bristol proclaims July 2025 Parks and Recreation Month; resident urges more kid activities

"This month is Parks and Rec Month and it's a dedicated time to recognize and appreciate the vital role that Parks and Recreation activities play in enhancing our quality of life," City Manager Randy Eads said during his presentation.
Council approved the proclamation unanimously. The proclamation text adopted by the council highlights parks' roles in health, wellness and economic benefits and formally designates July 2025 as Park and Recreation Month in the City of Bristol, Virginia.
During public comment, Bryziah Love Lewis asked the council for more child-oriented programming at Sugar Hollow Park, suggesting amenities such as a water park to increase recreational options for kids. The council did not take formal action on the request at the meeting.
The council adopted the proclamation and moved on to other business; no implementation measures or funding changes for new park facilities were approved at this meeting.
