At its May 13 meeting the Bristol City Council recognized police officers and dispatchers for actions that officials said saved lives and preserved scenes under difficult circumstances.
Chief Byron Ashbrook presented awards including a Meritorious Conduct Award to Lieutenant Wendy Brewer and Sergeant Tyler Cross for responding to a September 23, 2023 stabbing in the Lee Highway Exit 5 area; officers found a woman with 13 stab wounds to her face, head and neck and rendered first aid until EMS arrived.
Officer Kenneth Shadley received a Lifesaving Award for using Narcan and CPR on June 27, 2023 at a Shady Lane apartment breezeway when officers located an unresponsive man with an apparent opioid overdose.
Officers Wesley Carter and Shane Pratt were honored for a March 13, 2025 overdose response at 1875 Euclid Avenue in which officers administered Narcan and CPR, and the man later regained consciousness; Officer Carter also received a Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) award for impaired-driving enforcement.
Major Milligan presented the Stork Award to dispatchers Jerry Rolfe and Debbie Farris for giving pre-arrival instructions that assisted in two separate on-call infant deliveries (August 23, 2022 and December 30, 2022), including guidance that helped a newborn begin breathing before EMS arrived.
Council members applauded the honorees. The recognitions were presented as ceremonial agenda items and no formal council action beyond the awards presentation was required.
