Byram City to advance $850,000 in state drainage funds; council approves design and survey contracts

Staff said the department expects the funds to be deposited in summer and urged beginning design work to be ready to advertise for construction.
City staff asked the council to approve two separate proposals from McMaster and Associates: one for design and civil engineering services and a second for topographic surveying and utility locating. The mayor called the proposal items; councilmembers discussed scope and bid timing and then took votes to approve the agreements so work on plans and surveys can proceed while the city awaits the actual capital deposit.
Public works staff also provided project timing updates: advertisement and bid openings for the soccer complex and other local projects were discussed, and the Old Byron Road Bridge work was noted as progressing with piles driven and beam work scheduled in coming weeks.
Council approved the McMaster proposals with affirmative roll-call votes. Staff said the design and survey contracts are intended to accelerate project readiness so the city can move quickly once state funds are received.
