The finance subcommittee voted to forward a recommendation for the district to proceed with phase 3 of a lighting replacement project, which staff said is fully funded by state grants from Rhode Island Energy and the Office of Energy Resources (OER) and requires no district funds.
Presenter (S5) said the work replaces fixtures across schools to improve energy efficiency, safety and reduce maintenance costs. "This work is fully funded by state level grants ... No funding comes from the district," the presenter said. Phase 3 completes lighting upgrades for schools not scheduled for major renovations.
A committee member asked whether retrofits are scheduled during school hours; staff said the work typically happens off‑hours and that the project schedule would be provided to the committee after the meeting. A motion to recommend the lighting and energy contract to the full board was seconded and passed without objection.
