Peoria board tables July 1 minutes, approves Safe Schools intergovernmental agreement after debate on costs and notice

The Peoria Public Schools Board paused on approval of the July 1 public‑session minutes after several members raised requested corrections and asked that amended minutes be circulated at least 48 hours before the next meeting. Board member Mr. Diaz moved to table the minutes so requested edits could be incorporated; the motion passed on a roll call of 7 ayes. The meeting produced one of the lengthiest policy and fiscal exchanges: an intergovernmental agreement with the Peoria County Regional Office of Education (Safe Schools RSSP) that would allow students throughout the county to access a centralized safe‑school program. Some board members, led by Mr. Diaz, sought granular clarity on the district’s potential financial exposure if state allocations did not fully cover program costs. Administrators and counsel explained that state grant funds are administered through the regional office and that funding typically "follows the child," but that district budgeting must account for any local gap. Superintendent Dr. Bell and CFO Dr. Curry agreed to request more detailed, itemized cost and reimbursement figures from the regional office prior to full implementation.

Despite lingering questions, the board approved the intergovernmental agreement on a 5‑2 roll call (Mister Diaz and Missus Wilson recorded as nays).
