The Canton Public School District Board of Trustees approved monthly financial reports and a slate of vendor contracts and purchases at its Aug. 13 regular meeting at the Canton Career Center.
Mr. Tony Foster presented the financial items, including Claims Docket #25621–25701, Claims Docket #25560–25576, Claims Docket #25590–25620, the Activity Fund report and the district financial statements for July 2024. Mr. Glen Lacey moved to approve financial items 9.1–9.7; Dr. Shivochie Dinkins seconded, and the board recorded the motion as approved.
The trustees also voted to approve a series of contractual agreements for the 2024–25 school year, including: a grease-trap cleaning contract with Mid-South Septic; a collaborative agreement with Millcreek Schools LLC; E-Rate consulting services with Rollins & Sumrall Education Group Inc.; dual-enrollment arrangements with Holmes Community College; behavioral-health and crisis-intervention services with Region 8 and Mississippi Behavioral Health Services LLC; security memoranda of understanding for Madison County Sheriff Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol officers; and a refrigeration-maintenance agreement with Humitec Corporation not to exceed $15,000. Additional vendor approvals included Auto-Chlor Chemical Corp. for cleaning chemicals (not to exceed $20,000), the Kirkland Group for administration support at Goodloe Elementary (not to exceed $37,000), and a 48-month state contract rental for Ricoh copy machines beginning Oct. 1, 2024.
A large consent agenda cleared the board, covering instructional materials and software purchases (including Edgenuity, Curriculum Associates/I-Ready, MyOn, Heggerty and IXL), an infrastructure refresh from BCI (not to exceed $137,000), testing services (ACT) and other district needs. The consent agenda also authorized the creation of a Federal Fiscal Manager position and a Campus Enforcement Officer position for 2024–25.
The board approved multiple personnel actions later in the meeting, including leaves, resignations, reassignments and several recommended hires for the coming school year.
The meeting minutes record formal motions and roll-call votes for the major agenda items. The board adjourned after completing the published agenda.
