The Norwalk Bike Walk Commission spent part of its July 13 meeting on event outreach and safety programming for late 2026 and 2027.
Commissioners reviewed plans to participate in the Sono Arts Festival (Aug. 1–2), Norwalk Night Out (Aug. 11, 5–8 p.m.), and NICE Festival (Oct. 3), and confirmed bike‑valet and tabling roles for volunteers and commissioners. Nick Pappas summarized the commission’s typical table inclusions—bike lights, helmets and walking/biking maps—and several members volunteered for specific dates.
On school and education initiatives, the education subcommittee (Manny) proposed school outreach during the week of Oct. 19–23 and discussed a larger Open Streets‑style event aimed for May 8, 2027. The commission also flagged Walk by School Day for Oct. 7, 2026, and discussed developing a Young Adult Safe Cycling Course this fall at CT State Norwalk with a League Certified Instructor.
Communications and outreach plans include improved website content (norwalkbyblock.org), consolidated domains for commission materials, multilingual e‑bike safety flyers adapted from state and Watch for Me CT resources, and a possible Canva account or volunteer designers to produce translated graphics.
Anna Stern, program coordinator for Watch for Me CT, asked the commission to partner in hosting the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims on Nov. 15, 2026. She said past statewide events have drawn roughly 75–100 attendees; the commission suggested the South Norwalk Library community room as a possible venue and offered to help with outreach and modest budget support for room rental if needed.
TMP staff asked commissioners to attend upcoming public information meetings for several projects in design (West Rocks Road, East Wall Street, Sono sidewalks) and noted construction work accelerates during summer while schools are out.
What’s next: the commission will finalize volunteer signups for summer events, assemble a public nomination form for the new award item, draft e‑bike educational materials for fall distribution and coordinate with Watch for Me CT on the Nov. 15 remembrance event.
