Mantua public works reports new HVAC at community center, convenience-center schedule and park maintenance needs

Public Works Superintendent reported the Community Center HVAC replacement is complete, the municipal drop-off schedule (Saturdays 10 a.m.–2 p.m. through Labor Day) and ongoing stormwater/inlet work; he said contractors will assess the municipal building front doors for replacement.
Public Works Superintendent Glenn deMers told the Township Committee on Aug. 12 that the Community Center HVAC system has been replaced and is now operational for county programs and senior use.
DeMers said the contractor who will repair a drive‑through will also inspect the municipal building’s front doors for possible replacement because they are in disrepair. He reported the department continues routine trash/recycling and grass routes, is addressing stormwater inlet and pipework, and is covering staffing gaps while one park worker is out.
He confirmed the Public Works Convenience Center drop-off is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. from Memorial Day through Labor Day and returns to once monthly (the fourth Saturday) after Labor Day. Deputy Mayor Scirrotto asked that a remaining bush at McCarson Park be removed to balance plantings; deMers said the county arborist will install seasonal flowers and that staff is in touch with New Life Landscapers to service parks.
Engineer Jon Bryson also reported on road projects: NJDOT’s S. McCarthy paving project is complete and punch-list work remains, and Monmouth Avenue plans and specifications are about 90% complete and will be finalized for bidding in coordination with administration and public works.
