Mantua reports Monmouth work finished, McCarthy DOT award and tire amnesty

Mantua Township engineers said work on Monmouth Avenue milling and surfacing is complete and a NJDOT award for McCarthy Avenue has been received; GCIA reinstated tire amnesty for June and the convenience center will be open Saturdays through Labor Day.
Engineer Jon Bryson told the committee that the milling base and surface work on Monmouth Avenue is complete and that the contractor expects to finish the project by the end of the week, weather permitting. Bryson said the township has received an NJDOT award for McCarthy Avenue and that a pre-construction meeting will be scheduled.
Bryson also informed the committee that FY2026 NJDOT applications are open and due July 1, 2025. Mayor Zimmerman and staff encouraged awareness of the application deadline for any future grant opportunities.
Public Works Superintendent Glenn deMers said the Gloucester County Improvement Authority reinstated tire amnesty for the month of June, allowing the township to dispose of tires already collected in March 2025; he said two additional containers can be taken to the county by the end of the month. DeMers reminded residents the Public Works Convenience Center drop-off is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Labor Day.
The committee authorized engineering agreements with Bryson & Yates for reconstruction of West Monmouth Avenue and resurfacing of McCarthy Avenue as part of the consent agenda approved at the meeting.
