Board members reviewed a breakdown of revenues and expenses for the 2025 spring soccer season and raised questions about sponsor recognition and account treatment.
Alderman Harris Allen and others asked whether sponsor banners were to be provided by donors or purchased by the city; staff said the letter to sponsors could be read either way and that some donors had not provided banners. Board members also noted the city appears to have spent more than the reported soccer revenue: staff said some expenses were charged to tourism or other accounts and that the city's bookkeeping and banner recognition need clearer documentation. One alderman said remaining funds should be directed to the soccer team if appropriate.
Council members asked staff to place the item on the regular meeting agenda for Thursday so the board can review documentation and, if necessary, vote on next steps. No final funding reallocation or vote was recorded at the work session.
