Collbran approves auditorium renovations, selects sink option and ratifies asbestos abatement

The Collbran Board of Trustees on Oct. 1 moved several decisions forward on the town auditorium renovation. Derek Hamilton of Asset Construction provided the Board with a project update before trustees voted on specific options and change orders.

Trustee Zentz moved to accept the sink option for the auditorium kitchen at a cost of $16,000; the motion passed unanimously. Trustee Price then moved to direct staff to proceed with necessary bathroom updates to bring the facility into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act; that motion also passed unanimously.

Trustee Evans moved to approve Change Order 001 (dated Sept. 20, 2024) for necessary asbestos abatement in the amount of $10,965.35 to be paid from contingency funds and to extend the contract time by 21 days, setting substantial completion by Feb. 21, 2025. The Board approved the change order, and later ratified the asbestos abatement agreement with Asbestos Professionals in the same amount.

Why it matters: the approved items modify both the scope and the schedule of the renovation. The asbestos abatement adds a discrete cost ($10,965.35) and extends the contractor's timeline, while the ADA bathroom work and kitchen sink selection determine final accessibility and functionality for the renovated auditorium.

What was decided: the Board approved the sink purchase ($16,000), directed staff to perform ADA bathroom upgrades, approved the asbestos change order and ratified the abatement contract. The motion to extend substantial completion sets Feb. 21, 2025 as the new target for substantial completion.
