City staff said Southeastern Silk Coating will be the contractor for the work. "The total cost of the project is $579,378," Mister Smith told the council during the project update, and he said construction is expected to start before the end of the month. Staff estimated the project will take four to six months, although they added an optimistic estimate of 90 days under ideal conditions.
Council members asked how the project would affect area parking for nearby businesses and urged staff to provide targeted notice. A council member requested written or flyer notice to affected merchants; Mister Smith said city staff "will send them a letter this week." The council adopted the agreement 4-0 (Resolution 26-71).
The council did not record any amendments to the contract and did not hear opposition during the meeting. Staff said they had met with the local church and the developer previously to discuss temporary parking arrangements; councilors asked staff to continue notifying nearby businesses as construction proceeds.
Mayor Andrews confirmed the project will proceed following the council vote and thanked staff for the update. Construction timing and any lane-closure details will be provided by Public Works in forthcoming notices.
