The Homewood City Council unanimously approved a package of housekeeping ordinances, right-of-way vacations and several small grant and support resolutions at its July 13 meeting.
The council voted 4-0 to adopt an ordinance repealing a leftover committee-era provision in the city code (Ordinance 29-81) and to adopt an ordinance that requires material budget changes to be adopted by ordinance rather than resolution (Ordinance 29-82). The council also approved revisions to the Historic Preservation Commission ordinance (Ordinance 29-83) and adopted an ordinance declaring miscellaneous city property surplus (Ordinance 29-84).
“The cleanup aligns our code with the city’s current committee-of-the-whole structure,” City Attorney Keith Jackson said during a brief presentation explaining the repeal and the other housekeeping measures.
In separate votes, councilors approved two right-of-way vacations brought forward after June public hearings: the vacation of a portion of an unnamed alley adjacent to 200 Virginia Drive (Resolution 26-68) and the vacation of a 20-foot alley between 115 and 117 Morris Boulevard (Resolution 26-69). Mayor Andrews noted neighbors had attended the earlier hearings and that utilities had been checked prior to final action on the first alley vacation.
The council also approved routine financial measures, including vouchers and transfers for the June 23–July 13 period (Resolution 26-72), and a $5,000 grant award to the Homewood Fire Department to fund a camera (Resolution 26-75). Mayor Andrews and councilors thanked staff for clear documentation of voucher transfers during discussion.
Smaller administrative items on the consent/regular agenda passed without discussion or opposition, including a Good Neighbor pledge the council authorized the city manager to sign on behalf of Homewood in support of Daxko’s continued efforts to locate in the community (Resolution 26-73) and a resolution expressing the city’s support for a Friends of Shades Creek grant application (Resolution 26-74).
Votes at a glance: all listed items adopted by 4-0 votes with councilors Sims, Simmons, Armstead and Mayor Andrews recorded as voting yes. No formal opposition or abstentions were recorded for the listed ordinances and resolutions.
The council set several public hearings and carryovers for the July 27 meeting, including a rezone request for a small portion of 1832 25th Court South and traffic-signing amendments for Rumson Road and Yorkshire Drive.
