Mantua Committee approves $1.876 million bond ordinance to fund capital improvements

The Township Committee of the Township of Mantua on Aug. 11 adopted Ordinance 4-2025, a bond ordinance appropriating $1,876,000 for various capital improvements and authorizing the issuance of general obligation bonds or bond anticipation notes of up to $1,559,000.
Mayor Zimmerman read the ordinance aloud and, after the committee opened the item to the public and received no comment, Deputy Mayor Legge moved to approve; Committeewoman Lukens seconded. A roll call vote recorded five yes votes and the ordinance was adopted.
Township Administrator Jennica Bileci said that adoption clears the way for the township to proceed with projects and capital purchases and that she will notify department heads which equipment and purchases have been approved through capital so departments can move forward.
Engineer Jon Bryson reported a pre-construction meeting for the NJDOT McCarthy Avenue project; he said the contractor has submitted the required documentation and is anticipating a start date shortly after Labor Day. Bryson also said the Chestnut Branch Park project for new pickleball courts can go out to bid and that he is reviewing a state-contracted contractor's estimate to determine where costs can be reduced to meet budget limits.
The committee took no further public comment on the ordinance. The committee approved the bill list later in the meeting and adjourned.
