During a statutorily required public hearing on the adopted budget, a district finance presenter identified in the meeting as Mr. O'Brien said there were few changes between the proposed and adopted budget and that the state's finalized budget added roughly $1,100,000 to the M&O budget; the presenter attributed that addition to funding from state trust land (referred to in meeting materials as Prop 123). After no public speakers, a board member moved to approve the adopted budget for fiscal year 2026'27; the motion was seconded and the board voted to approve the adopted budget.
Separately, the board voted to adopt a resolution that authorizes the governing board's argument in support of a special M&O override. President Clayton outlined programmatic uses that the resolution lists for override funds, including full‑day kindergarten, expanded academic interventions, arts and PE, gifted programs, Cardinals Prep Academy, additional teacher positions and maintaining competitive salaries; the resolution was approved by motion.
Other formal actions recorded at the meeting included: adoption of the meeting agenda, approval of the June 11 minutes (with one abstention), approval of the consent agenda and a motion to adjourn. No contested votes or roll‑call tallies by name were entered into the public record beyond the "one abstention" noted in the minutes approval.
What happens next: staff said the adopted budget and associated documentation complete the statutory steps for adoption; the board asked staff to brief them on the Unified System of Financial Records (USFR) at a future meeting to explain new regulatory responsibilities for districts and boards.
