A representative of the North American Heritage Association presented details of an upcoming Port Loop waterfront event and asked the Bangor City Council to consider participating in a community rowing competition and other festivities.
The presenter described that the association has organized the Port Loop for three years to bring tall ships to four ports and said this year’s programming will include the student training vessel Harvey Gamage, Maine Maritime Academy vessels, a six‑person rowing boat exhibit and a drone show on the Bangor waterfront. “We put it together 3 years ago, to bring tall ships into the 4 ports,” the presenter said.
The organizer said the rowing races will include six‑person crews, training earlier in the day and racing later, and that the group would welcome teams from city departments or council designees. The event also plans a drone show at a parking lot on the waterfront.
Councilors responded that staff would circulate an email inviting interest and that a city contact (Robin) would collect signups. The presenter said further scheduling and logistics would be shared via email.
Next steps: City staff will follow up with the organizer and circulate a participation sign‑up to councilors and relevant departments.
