White Salmon council members announce open house, Tree Fest and report on cougar sighting

During the Feb. 18 White Salmon City Council meeting, members provided routine reports and community announcements.
Council Member Ben Giant confirmed a Community Development Committee meeting scheduled for Feb. 23. Councilor Doug Rainbolt encouraged attendance at an open house for Phase 1R2A water transmission main improvements and said he is updating the city’s service impact fee analysis. Council Member Patty Fink previewed Tree Fest on March 21 and a draft tree walk pending property owner approvals and noted plans for an April community cleanup at Gaddis Park.
Council Member Morella Mora reported she is recovering and raised a neighborhood concern about a cougar sighting. Police Chief Mike Hepner said officers responded and coordinated with Fish and Wildlife, which attempted to track the cougar with hounds but was unable to locate it; officials believe it likely returned to the canyon.
Department head reports were presented with no questions, and the meeting adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
