Winnebago County supervisors approve routine reports, authorize ad to recruit medical examiner investigators

The Winnebago County Board of Supervisors met at 9:00 A.M. on July 7, 2026, and took a series of routine administrative actions, including approving quarterly reports, authorizing recruitment for medical investigator positions and approving county claims.
Bill Jensvold, Chairperson of the Winnebago County Board of Supervisors, called the session to order. Supervisors Jensvold, Durby and Smith were present.
Mary Lou Kleveland, Veterans Affairs, presented the department’s quarterly report; on a motion by Supervisor Durby and seconded by Supervisor Smith the board approved the Veterans Affairs Quarterly report. The board also approved the Auditor’s Quarterly report, the Recorder’s Quarterly report and the Sheriff’s Quarterly report on motions made and seconded by Supervisors Smith and Durby. In each instance the minutes record a unanimous vote: “all voted aye.”
The board discussed Medical Examiner Investigator staffing and approved a motion by Supervisor Smith, seconded by Supervisor Durby, to place an advertisement to recruit additional investigators. The board also considered homestead credits; on a motion by Supervisor Smith, seconded by Supervisor Durby, it approved the homestead credits unanimously.
Kris Oswald, Drainage Clerk, reported a fallen tree in Drainage District 1 that is blocking water flow; the county contacted Helgeson Drainage to clear the obstruction. Ethan Schutter, Maintenance Supervisor, reported that shouldering work at Rice Lake has been completed and mowing has begun on gravel roads.
The board reviewed and approved a batch of claims covering utilities, services, supplies and memberships (listed in the minutes). The Auditor’s Office received a manure management plan for Buffalo Site #65411 in Winnebago County, which was filed with the Auditor’s Office.
During open forum a participant raised concerns about weeds and trees in road ditches; the Supervisors said they will attend the Conservation Board meeting on Monday to discuss the issue further.
The session was adjourned until 9:00 A.M. on July 14, 2026.
