Edison board honors student teams, Eagle Scout and district nutrition director

The Edison Township Board of Education used its open meeting to recognize student and staff achievements before moving on to routine business. Board President Patel introduced several awards, including recognition for JP Stevens students Sanvi Bhatt and Shreya Reddy for founding a nonprofit called We Are With You that supports children with cancer. Dr. Kim, principal of John P. Stevens High School, invited the students forward and congratulated them.
Dr. Kim also announced that the Woodrow Wilson Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team won first place at the world finals in Iowa and invited the team onstage for certificates and a group photo. The board and audience applauded the students’ accomplishment.
The board recognized Ria Ray for achieving Eagle Scout rank and credited her with completing a beautification project at James Madison Primary School. Trustees said they would deliver a certificate acknowledging her work.
President Patel announced that Armida Caldwell was named Director of the Year by the New Jersey School Nutrition Association for her leadership of the district’s food service program; the board noted Caldwell’s roughly 30 years in food service and said the district serves about 17,000 meals daily across its schools (as stated at the meeting). Colleagues offered a round of applause and presented recognitions.
The recognition segment concluded and the board proceeded to its superintendent and committee reports.
