Superintendent reports radon project nearing completion, updates on facilities and new hires

Superintendent Brian Ashen provided a verbal report to the board on ongoing facility and operational items, including an update that the radon mitigation project is nearing completion and that the district has hired a grant writer and a custodial supervisor.
Ashen said the CMGC architect has met with staff and with Cody to plan fire-suppression work and that decisions remain about the best system to select. "They're working on fire suppression...I don't have any final proposal on that yet," he said. On the radon work, he added, "Most of the installation is done. They've gone back and then tested...I know 1 area where they had to go back and increase a fan size...but that project's nearing completion." He said a formal update will be provided at the next board meeting.
Ashen also noted recent hires and that facilities staff are in full swing preparing for the upcoming school year. He thanked the board for supporting district initiatives and said he will present key initiatives and a summary for the August board meeting.
