Select Board extends ban on outdoor water use amid low pond levels

The Wolfeboro Select Board voted May 6 to continue the existing water restrictions adopted last fall, carrying forward a prohibition on all outdoor municipal water use while the town monitors pond levels.
Public works Director Steve Randall told the board the pond is down about 24 inches, a level the town usually does not reach until September, and recommended continuing restriction category D (prohibiting all outdoor water use) from his April memo. "We want to continue with the same restrictions that we put on last fall," Randall said.
Board members asked whether the restrictions applied to commercial operations such as car washes; Randall said the prohibition was intended to avoid harming businesses that reuse water and that commercial establishments can still operate where permitted. The board moved and seconded a motion to continue the prohibition; voice vote confirmed the motion with no recorded opposition.
The measure is temporary and staff said they will report to the board with updated measurements and a contingency plan if conditions worsen.
What happens next: Public works will continue to monitor lake/pond levels, provide updates to the board and the public, and advise if tighter controls or additional relief measures are necessary.
