White Salmon honors women’s leadership, plans Arbor Day and public engagement series

The White Salmon City Council opened its March 4 meeting with a Heritage Month presentation and community updates from the mayor.
Councilmember Morella Mora introduced Jill Catherine of the Gorge Leadership Institute, who described INSPIRE: Celebrating Women in the Gorge, a 2025 event that recognized 16 local women across arts, education, business and nonprofit leadership. Catherine said the event combined interviews, panels and performances and helped raise community interest and funding for organizations such as the Skamania Kids and Youth (SKY) Community Center.
Mayor Marla Keethler highlighted several upcoming initiatives and events, including an Arbor Day community event at Rheingarten Park on March 21 and a planned 'Pizza and Policy' series beginning in April that will focus on water infrastructure and conservation — topics the mayor said were timely given a warmer winter and potential summer risks. Keethler also noted several grant opportunities the city is pursuing, such as a state recreation grant for the Bluff Trail and potential Bureau of Reclamation WaterSmart grants, and reported continuing efforts to resolve a stalled USPS PO box issue with assistance from Senator Murray’s office.
Councilmembers thanked presenters and staff and noted ongoing community activities, including Tree Fest and a community Tree Walk, as well as upcoming International Women’s Day events and volunteer cleanup work at Gaddis Park.
