Board approves contracts for instructional coaching, drug testing and health services

The Wetzel County Board of Education approved three contracting items on the board packet: an instructional coaching, professional development and leadership support agreement with Quentin Granville for $35,910; a vendor contract with Absolute Assurance LLC to provide drug testing for career and technical education (CTE) students at an estimated $49 per student test; and an agreement with the Wetzel–Tyler Health Department for health services estimated up to $12,000.
Board members questioned prior use of the instructional-coaching vendor and confirmed the cost covers travel expenses and fees; staff said the coach is contracted directly instead of through a regional intermediary and that the high schools had already expressed interest in continuing the work. On the drug-testing contract, staff explained the tests are mouth swabs used to comply with existing CTE program policies and that the quoted rate reflects uncertainty about the exact number of students to be tested.
On health services, staff explained the district does not pay for services until they are delivered and that the $12,000 total is an upper estimate to cover multiple items such as food-service permits, health cards for cooks, and other on-call services; currently a bill for roughly $9,700 is outstanding. A staff member said the health department often brings mobile dental services and that the arrangement would be no cost to the county when those services are provided on site.
All three contracts were approved by the board without recorded dissent after board discussion.
