Tioga commissioner Robert Fuson resigns from commission but says he will still seek re-election

Robert Fuson told the Tioga City Commission on June 1 that he would resign as a city commissioner effective immediately but that he intends to remain a candidate in the June 9 election.
The resignation was announced during commissioner reports. Fuson said he had “gotten into some trouble with the Tioga PD” and that, with the municipal election a week away, he would “let the people of Tioga decide if they want him to be a commissioner.” Commissioner Kyle Ralston moved to accept Fuson’s resignation; the motion passed by roll call vote (ayes: Ralston, Iverson, Dye, Rieniets).
Commission President Brett Rieniets acknowledged Fuson’s service and said the commission would proceed to accept the resignation. Attorney Liz Pendlay later thanked Fuson for his time on the commission. Rieniets also used his remarks that evening to address recent social media criticism about staff turnover, defending the commission’s hiring and retention and saying the city had followed legal procedures in prior personnel matters under the North Dakota Century Code.
The commission did not appoint a replacement at the meeting. Fuson said he intends to ask voters on June 9 to decide whether to return; the commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled for June 15, 2026.
