Pasco staff brief council on WSDOT detour for Kartchner/US‑395 roundabout; three‑week impact expected

Engineering manager Andre Avedisiano told the council that the Washington State Department of Transportation intends to construct a roundabout at the US‑395/Kartchner Street intersection and that the project’s first construction stage will require a temporary detour using several city streets.
Avedisiano said bids were received recently and that the project is scheduled for construction in 2026. He described the staged traffic control plan and said the most impactful phase would reroute eastbound traffic around nearby blocks and restrict some streets to local traffic only. “Although this is scheduled to be the detour is only scheduled to be for about 3 weeks based on their estimation of the work,” he said.
As part of the proposed agreement, WSDOT’s contractor would be responsible for repairing or restoring striping and roadway conditions if the detour increases wear on city streets. Staff recommended council approve the detour agreement; the item was presented for information during the workshop and no formal council action occurred at this meeting.
The council did not receive substantive public comment on this agenda item during the workshop.
