At its Feb. 2 meeting the Conservation Commission reported on a recent online review of forestry management plans for parcels within the Dundee Community Forest.
The commission recorded that most discussion focused on standardizing plan style across parcels and adding an appendix to include relevant supporting documents. Commissioners emphasized forestry goals and recommended proactive invasive-plant control before carrying out management activities.
In new business, Ken Kimball discussed working with Larry Garland to assemble a Natural Resource Inventory using state data; Brian Byrne presented maps prepared by the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust in 2011 that cover much of Jackson. A researcher contacted the commission with questions about potential wetlands violations near Dana Place and the Wildcat Townhomes; Ben Halcyon found no records in the commission files and Brian recommended contacting former commissioner Martha Benesh for historical files related to the town’s acquisition of development rights at the Wildcat Townhomes. Commissioners also briefly discussed a possible new conservation easement on a large tract; details and property identifiers were not specified in the minutes.
