Select Board to replace trees cut for bridge work; commission flags nonconforming parking at Jackson Falls

The Town of Jackson Conservation Commission reported on follow-up from the Select Board regarding Jackson Falls at its Feb. 2 meeting.
Commissioner Ken Kimball told the commission he attended the Jan. 20 Select Board meeting, where the board agreed to replace trees that were removed on Valley Cross Road for bridge construction. The minutes note that Burr Phillips will follow up with the Connors about tree replacement. The Select Board also raised the question of which department maintains the Falls’ parking areas and shoulders; the recorded consensus was that the Highway Department has been performing semi-regular maintenance and adding fill material when needed.
Commissioners recorded that the current informal parking areas at Jackson Falls are nonconforming with state Department of Transportation standards. That nonconformance has been an issue in earlier discussions about upgrading parking spots. Ken reported that the Conservation Commission’s current budget is adequate for immediate needs but cautioned that significant spending is likely in the future and will need to be requested from the Select Board.
The minutes do not record a formal motion or vote on parking upgrades at the Feb. 2 meeting. Burr Phillips and the Connors were named as follow-up contacts in the Select Board discussion; no timeline for upgrades or a formal budget request was provided in the minutes.
