Jackson Select Board accepts resignations, makes appointments, approves reimbursements and community projects

At its Jan. 20 meeting the Jackson Select Board accepted two resignations, appointed replacements to the Trustees of the Trust Funds and the Planning Board, approved a $650 reimbursement for a homeowner, approved a cemetery lot sale, authorized daffodil plantings and tabled a short-term rental occupancy question while approving notices for an advertised rental.
The Jackson Select Board on Jan. 20 handled a series of routine and community items: it accepted resignations, appointed replacements to volunteer boards, approved an $650 reimbursement for a homeowner over a culvert installation, approved a cemetery lot sale, authorized community plantings, and provided construction and meeting updates.
Board actions recorded included acceptance of Lee Phillips’ resignation as Trustee of the Trust Funds and the appointment of Robert Goodhue to that post. The board also accepted the resignation of long-serving Planning Board member Sarah Kimball and appointed alternate Jane Knell as a full member. Motions to accept and appoint were moved, seconded and recorded as approved.
On a neighborhood issue, the board agreed to reimburse Jonna Carter $650 for a North Country Soil invoice after a culvert was installed on Thorn Hill Road without notice to the homeowner and a subsequent soil report resolved wetland and drainage concerns. Barbara Campbell moved to reimburse Ms. Carter; the motion carried.
Community projects received approval: Paul Mayer presented a plan to plant 10,000 daffodil bulbs along a 2.5-mile loop in the village; the board approved planting in delineated town-owned areas and allowed plantings on private property with owner permission. The board also accepted a cemetery lot agreement from Leona Cloutier (lot 237) and approved the $100 purchase.
Bob Thompson provided a construction update for the new fire station: the front truss is nearly complete, interior painting mostly finished, epoxy flooring scheduled for the week of Feb. 9, and a grand opening planned for June 6 with local and state officials invited. The board noted the old fire truck remains listed for sale but may be retained for limited highway and forestry use and reassessed after Town Meeting in April.
The Select Board issued a first warning to the Ouimette short-term rental at 630 Town Hall Rd for advertising more bedrooms than allowed after the ad was corrected; the board also tabled a separate short-term rental violation at 7 Meserve Hill Rd pending research about occupancy limits and potential grandfathering under recent rulings. The board scheduled follow-up research before taking further enforcement action.
The meeting included a list of approved building permits and upcoming dates (candidate filing Jan. 21–30; Town Elections March 10; Town Meeting March 12). The board moved into a non-public session under RSA 91-A:3, II(e) at 4:25 p.m. to consider pending claims or litigation and returned to public session at 4:41 p.m. before adjourning.
