Tioga approves routine purchases, water-tower repair and service agreement

The Tioga City Commission on May 18 approved routine facility purchases and moves to repair a potentially failing water-tower transmitter.
Commissioners approved a $2,719.03 purchase from Express Mats to replace the city’s rental contract for rugs and mats at City Hall, the Community Center, the library and the police department. Auditor Wendy Lenzen and Community Center Director Joy Sparks said purchasing was more cost effective than the existing contract with Vestis.
Commissioner Kyle Ralston reported that the water-tower level transmitter (transducer) is not functioning properly and could allow the tower to overflow. The commission approved a quote from AE2S to perform recalibration or replacement work estimated at $4,000; the commission also approved an associated agreement for services with AE2S.
The commission then approved the consent agenda, which included bills, bi-weekly payroll and allocations from the Visitor Promotion Fund and the Tioga Fund for the community center, EDC/Chamber/Farm Festival and Tioga Medical Center.
Why it matters: the decisions affect day-to-day operations, facility maintenance and water-system reliability. Commissioners emphasized cost-effectiveness in procurement and directed staff to complete repairs to ensure safe operation of the water tower.
