The Tioga City Commission voted May 18 to continue operating its municipal court in Tioga, after officials said the city’s current technology meets the requirements to be a court of record.
President Brett Rieniets and Darci Grosche reported the local technology setup would satisfy court-of-record rules, and Municipal Judge Kayelee Hamers said she supported keeping the court in Tioga. Commissioner Kyle Ralston moved to continue the municipal court; Commissioner Jaden Iverson seconded the motion, and the roll call recorded ayes from Ralston, Iverson, Fuson and Rieniets.
The decision keeps municipal hearings in city facilities rather than referring cases to county court. Commissioners noted that the city will begin sourcing a new prosecuting attorney after the current city prosecutor’s resignation becomes effective in December 2026.
Why it matters: retaining the local municipal court preserves in-town access for respondents and preserves the city’s control over court scheduling and procedures. The commission asked staff to monitor any state or procedural changes that would affect continued operation as a court of record.
