Council approves $3,340 bid to replace sewer grinder and update pump actuation

Council members voted March 17 to accept a $3,340 bid from Indiana Pumps to replace a sewer grinder (the grinder that handles screenings) and to install an electronic, level-based actuation system on irrigation pumps.
A council member said the current lever-type float actuators allowed debris to catch and required frequent pond maintenance; the proposed electronic actuation would reduce the need for staff to enter ponds for cleaning and would be safer for personnel. "This new system would prevent any of that from happening ... It would be more of an electronic actuation based on water levels," the council member said.
The motion to accept the $3,340 bid was moved by a council member and seconded; roll-call responses recorded affirmative votes. A council member estimated installation would take about half a day and said the cost would come from sewer funds.
The council directed staff to schedule the work and coordinate with Indiana Pumps on timing and any site needs; no amendments to the motion were recorded.
